Bara Maha (rewriting by the artist-author). "Adi-Granth, holy scripture of the Sikhs is composed in various ragas and arranged according to their order.
Towards the end there is special mention of hierarchy of ragas, the ‘ragamala’s. It also contains ‘Barah-maha’ – the constant longing of the soul for the eternal God expressed over a period of twelve months.
The present volume is a novel attempt to depict these religious compositions through the medium of colour. What could be hitherto only heard as a string of words has been infused with a strong lively
(less)A World Without Islam
Fuller guides us along an illuminating journey through history, geopolitics and religion to investigate whether or not Islam is indeed the cause of some of today's most emotional and important international crises. Fuller takes us from the birth of Islam to the fall of Rome to the rise and collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
He examines and analyzes the roots of terrorism, the conflict in Israel and the role of Islam in supporting and energizing the anti-imperial struggle. Provocatively, he finds that contrary to the claims of many politicians, thinkers, theologians and soldiers, a world without Islam might not look vastly different from what we know today.
Filled with fascinating details and counterintuitive conclusions, A World Without Islam is certain to inspire debate and reshape the way we think..

"The common view of chemical and biological weapons is that they are a poor man's atomic bomb, that they are vile instruments of terror that civilized nations just do not use. This naive and narrow viewpoint ignores the fact that nations owning nuclear weapons have also developed chemical and biological weapons, not content with the nuclear weapons' more destructive capability.
This view disregards the fact that more countries are investing in chemical and biological weapons programs than in the past despite the alleged perceptions that the world finds these weapons "immoral." Countries invest in chemical and biological warfare for very rational

The wide arc of the book the last days of the Raj with its attendant traumas, the building of a democracy and even an analysis of life in Oxford does not preclude its detailed and compassionate human interest; a true reminder that grand and sweeping events are, after all, comprised of little people. The author takes us on a roller-coaster ride through his early years in the idyllic surroundings of Barisal (now in Bangladesh) to the tumultuous 1940s, when he was imprisoned for his involvement in the Quit India Movement, to his extraordinary achievements as historian and academician, all playing out against the momentous

On the other, access has been cleared to vast reserves of unedited and unpublished sources. This book is a collection of essays which document in their own way the author's personal journey in these years through parts of the Saiva and, to some extent, the Vaisnava Tantras.
Anyone who has travelled on similar paths knows how vast and marvellous the lands of this extraordinary world are. Self-awareness, Own Being

"The British claimed that India's Adivasi population lay beyond the pale of mainstream Hindu society. Yet, even a cursory mapping of the spiritual-cultural landscape reveals a deep symbiotic relationship between tribals and non tribals, which is amply reflected in the ancient literature and inscriptions.
Indeed, it was also noted by colonial anthropologists and ethnographers, (Mainly British officials), who deliberately delinked tribals from Hindu society through imposition of racial categories and Census classifications. Tribals have made an enormous contribution to India's civilization; all major Gods of the Indic

In this truly global journey Andrew Marr revisits some of the traditional epic stories, from classical Greece and Rome to the rise of Napoleon, but surrounds them with less familiar material, from Peru to the Ukraine, China to the Caribbean. He looks at cultures that have failed and vanished, as well as the origins of today's superpowers, and finds surprising echoes and parallels across vast distances and epochs.
This is a book about the great change-makers of history and their times, people such as Cleopatra, Genghis Khan, Galileo and Mao, but it is also a book about us. For 'the better we understand how rulers lose touch with reality, or why revolutions produce dictators more often
